It's Marathon Monday!

Every year on the 3rd Monday of April, the city of Boston hosts one of the most famous (is that even the right word??) marathons in the country. My uncle (who was a MA state trooper for 20+ years) used to run it just about every year. Part of the race weaves right through the town I teach in, and I know several of my students will be lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the runners.

Now, I am by no means a marathon runner or even a half-marathon runner (yet!) but I am gearing up for my 4th 5K this coming Saturday. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be motivated to run 4 5Ks in 4 months, especially since I have never been the "athletic type." Although I danced for 12+ years growing up, I only played one year of softball (and literally stood there with the bat, scared out of my freaking mind!), and always thought of running as "Oh, I don't do that..it's way too hard." My family is not big into sports (playing, watching, anything!) so I'm sure that has something to do with it.  But don't get me wrong, I definitely admire those people who excel at basically whatever sport they try (you know the ones I'm talking about!) I was just never one of those people!

So while I probably will never run a 26.2 mile race, I am content in the fact that I have accomplished something I vowed I would never do.  And regardless of my time on Saturday, I know I will finish that race feeling proud, invigorated, and ready for my next one...
