Movie Mondays!

Saw this over the weekend with a friend - hysterical movie!! It's a little slow in the beginning, but then it picks up and keeps you laughing til the end. The cast was fantastic - I loved Jennifer Aniston's character, which was a complete departure from her usual roles. Charlie Day (the actor below Jennifer) was probably one of my favorite actors in the movie. I can't remember if I've seen him in anything else, but he was really funny.

Movie Mondays!

I've been a bad blogger - I apologize! Some of my latest posts have been a tad lackluster, because the last few days of school were a bit crazy: I'm transferring to 2 new schools (within my district) so I can finally be full time and it literally all happened within a 48 hour period. I'm very excited for my new adventure, but sad to be leaving my school of 3 years.

Ok, so onto my latest movie! I saw "Bad Teacher" over the weekend with some lady friends (one of whom is also a teacher!) I would probably give it a B-. Not awful, but not stellar. There are definitely some funny moments, especially with Justin Timberlake's character. Phyllis from "The Office" is hysterical as usual.  I felt that some parts of the movie were just totally unrealistic or over the top, so probably not a movie I would see again.

In other news, this little guy is coming home with us in 3 weeks!!!

Love him!!!

Movie Mondays!

 

Today's movie is not your typical one. I saw this documentary over the weekend at a day-long workshop I attended on music & autism.  It was a wonderful presentation and I learned so many new things about ASDs (Autism Spectrum Disorders).  This movie was shown during the last portion of the workshop and it was truly the perfect ending to the day.

The kids in this movie will warm your heart (and may even make you cry - I was tearing up during several parts). The struggles of the parents will make you realize how insignificant your "troubles" are. And the final product that these kids present is nothing short of amazing.

No, it's not a Hollywood blockbuster or anything like that, but it's a movie that will make you stop and think about kids with autism and what that means. A great quote I heard at my workshop was "If you've met one person with Autism, you've met one person with Autism." Think about it :)

P.S. I am so in love with my iPhone, it's unhealthy :)

Movie Mondays! (and other stuff!)

All I can say about this movie is WOW! I had no idea what to expect, but I feel like it's one of those "cult classics" so I knew I had to get around to watching it at some point. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. I liked Bruce Willis' character a lot. Probably not a movie I would want to watch again, but I'm glad I can check it off my list!

So this is totally not related to Movie Mondays but I am really really loving Pinterest! I spent much of the weekend adding new boards/pins and drooling over other people's boards (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, head over to Pinterest.com - fascinating stuff!) For someone like me, who's constantly writing things down so I don't forget them, this concept of having a virtual pin board/cork board is amazing! I'm getting ideas for our sunroom and I just started a Summer Reading List too!

 Love this!!

In other news, we are planning to get our iPhones on FRIDAY!!! Gah! I am so flippin' excited to finally get rid of this piece of crap:

Movie Mondays!

I usually just have one movie for Movie Mondays, but I was able to catch 2 over the weekend - one via Redbox, the other in the real-deal theatre!

"Love and Other Drugs"

I love both actors in this movie (Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway) so that was one of the main reasons why I rented it.  The story starts off almost like a comedy - kinda fast paced, funny dialogue, etc. But by the end, it was very dramatic and almost seemed like a different movie.  I don't want to give the whole story away, but I'll give you the basics: Jake's character, Jamie,  works for Pfizer, slowly learning the trade of being a pharmaceutical rep and all the obstacles that come with it. He meets Anne's character, Maggie, who is your typical hippie/artist/free-spirit kind of girl. One small catch: she has Parkinson's. And she's 26. She is very much a commitment-phobe (due to her illness) and tries her best to resist Jamie's charm and genuine concern for her well-being. And you'll just have to watch the movie to find out what happens next :) Some people I've talked to didn't love it, and for me, it was one of those "Glad I watched it, but probably won't watch it again" kind of films. But hey, if nothing else, these 2 deliver a LOT of eye candy! 

Oh, and the movie is set in 1996, which I loved. I feel like nowadays, movies are either modern-day or back in the 60s or hundreds of years ago. It was fun to see the fashions I remember wearing when I was in middle/high school! 

"X-Men: First Class"

My husband desperately wanted to see this movie, and I  had seen all the other X-men flicks, so I figured, why not? It definitely did not disappoint! I love prequels (I guess that's what this was?) and the backstories of characters, how they came to be, etc. The movie takes place during WWII and the early 60s - the costuming was fabulous! I thought the casting was pretty good too - James McAvoy played a young Charles Xavier and Kevin Bacon had a pretty amazing performance as Sebastian Shaw (the bad guy!). January Jones (one of my favorites!) is the villainess Emma Frost and her outfits (entirely of white) were very 60s mod-inspired - loved it!

There were also a few cameos by previous X-Men characters, which totally caught me by surprise, but it was perfectly timed and pretty amusing. (No, I won't tell you who they were so you can go see the movie!) Hard to tell if there will be another X-Men movie, but the way it ended, in a "It's not over" kind of way makes me think this isn't the final installment.. I mean, it was a prequel, so yes technically you could just go back and watch the first one and it would make sense. But I wouldn't be surprised if come out with another one in a few years.

Movie Mondays!

Time for another installment of Movie Mondays! Happy Memorial Day to everyone, too :)

Over the weekend (altho I guess technically it still IS the weekend??) I saw "Bridesmaids" with one of my gals and we were literally laughing our you-know-whats off from beginning to end. I'm a big fan of Kristen Wiig and as usual, she was hysterical! Definitely a movie I would see a 2nd (or 3rd!) time in the theatres.

Next on my list: Pirates 4 and Hangover 2 (I wasn't a fan of the first Hangover, but maybe the 2nd one will be better!)

Movie Mondays!

 
I started watching Grosse Point Blank last night (via Netflix of course!) but was exhausted from my 5K earlier that day, so I only got about halfway thru it before my body told me it was time to hit the sheets!

It's definitely...quirky? Maybe that's not the right word. But usually, John Cusack movies have the tendency to be "in a league of their own" so to speak. I like Minnie Driver but I'm not sure I love her character so far. I guess I'll have to finish the movie first!

The mid-90s fashion is keeping me entertained, and I'm liking the soundtrack so far, too.

As for movies in the theatre, I really want to see Bridesmaids, Pirates 4 and Hangover 2 (which opens this weekend!)

Movie Mondays!

Over the weekend I watched "The Joy Luck Club," a movie that's been on my Netflix queue for quite some time!!

Definitely a chick flick, but a heartwarming one at that.. I really loved how it wove the stories of the mothers and daughters together. Each woman had unique struggles with marriage, motherhood, and finding balance in their lives, but the one constant that remained was their friendship with each other.

I think I might put this on my book list for the summer too - which reminds me, I need to start that list soon!!

Movie Mondays!

I saw this over the weekend with some lady friends and I absolutely loved it!!!! I thought the directors did an amazing job with the casting and I would totally go back and see this again!

**Spoiler alert** (altho I think it's in a preview somewhere) One of my favorite parts was when Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin's characters jump into their synchronized dance routine of Salt 'n' Pepa's "Push It" I was dying laughing and I bet it was a fun scene to film! Also - there's a neat little cameo by the author, Emily Giffin - very clever!

The movie was slightly different from the book, but I think because I literally finished it 2 nights before I saw the movie, I was very much aware of the changes.

I can't wait to get my hands on "Something Blue" so I can see what happens next in the storyline!

Movie Mondays...and more!

Ok, well I haven't watched a movie in the last week, but I did start to read "Something Borrowed" by Emily Griffin because I'm planning to see the movie when it comes out on Friday! I hate when I go see a movie/watch a movie and haven't read the book first...which is not to say that that hasn't happened to me numerous times, but I had heard such great reviews on this book, I figured it would be a quick read (and a good one at that!)

I haven't done any reading for pleasure lately, and I have to say, this book has me captivated!! It's been so nice to lounge on the couch this weekend (in between our weekend obligations) and just read! I'm about halfway thru (started reading on Saturday) and I can't wait to read more during my free time today at school!

It's their Primer Potion in Sin, a shimmery champagne color which can be used as a base or alone. I tried it out today and loved it!

Movie Mondays!

Thinking of starting a weekly post about recent movies I've seen (either via the theatre or Netflix!)

Thanks to the lovely week-long vacation I just had, I was able to watch several movies (I mentioned them on my Wednesday post from last week). Some were ones I had seen before, some were brand-new. My favorite of the bunch was probably "An Education"

It's based on a book by Lynn Barber (thanks Corey for spotting this!) and the screenplay was written by Nick Hornby (same guy who wrote the screenplays for "About a Boy" and "High Fidelity" - 2 movies I have not seen either but would like to!)

I don't want to give away the whole story, but basically, it's a coming of age story, set in a little suburb of London in 1963 I believe...the protagonist in the story, Jenny, must choose between an education at Oxford or an "education" with her new (and much older!) leading man, David.  I'd never seen Carey Mulligan before (maybe this was one of her first films?) but she was absolutely fantastic!! If you haven't seen it yet and you're a sucker for British accents and period films like me, you need to!
